Slate has an interesting article about the different e-mail styles of America and Europe. This shouldn't be all that surprising, given how readily the two continents see themselves as different, but it is because I think everyone regards e-mail and the Internet as somehow having a democratizing effect on culture. Which is complete rubbish, obviously...at least for now. Give it a few generations and the situation will inesvitably be quite different, and e-mail and the 'net will have played an enormous role in global culture's evolution.
